VPN shows Not connected or Unknown
Updated
VPN Access shows the connection state SomHack can observe. A downloaded config alone does not mean the tunnel is connected.
What the status means
- Not set up: you have not made a VPN config yet. Select Download config.
- Connected: SomHack can observe a connection for your VPN peer.
- Not connected: the latest check did not show an active connection.
- Unknown: SomHack could not confirm the live connection state. This does not prove that your tunnel is off.
- Recovering: your VPN setup is not in its normal active state yet.
Check your tunnel
- Open WireGuard and activate your SomHack tunnel.
- Check that it uses your current
somhack-vpn.conf. A replaced config no longer works. - Check that your computer has an internet connection.
- Return to VPN Access and select Refresh VPN status.
On Linux, inspect the current tunnel:
sudo wg show
A recent handshake helps you check whether your computer is reaching the VPN. For full setup instructions, see Connect to the lab VPN.
If a lab target does not answer
Check both the VPN status and the machine's status. A connected VPN does not start a stopped machine. Start the lab and wait for Running before using its target.
If status remains unknown or the target still does not answer, contact support. Include the status and error message, but never your config or private key.
